The cup with a heart – the ELANEE menstrual cup

Menstrual cups are small cups used to collect menstrual fluid.
That sums it up succinctly, but it does raise some questions. We'll explain the basics of this special period aid:
Menstrual cups…
… are a reusable, discreet alternative to conventional tampons and pads.
…can absorb more fluid than most tampons.
… are mostly made of medical-grade silicone or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
…thanks to the material, the mucous membranes do not dry out even in the event of slight bleeding.
… produce less waste than tampons and pads because they can be reused for several years.
Menstrual cups are inserted vaginally during your period. Unlike tampons, they sit just above the vaginal opening, collecting menstrual blood. When the cup is full, or after a maximum of eight hours of wear, the cup is removed, the contents are emptied into the toilet, and the cup is reinserted after a brief cleaning under running water.
Using a cup is actually quite simple, right? Yet it scares many menstruating women or raises questions. Why?
1. It's something new, unfamiliar, and often difficult. How does it even work? What if something leaks? Tampons and pads are actually fine, too...
2. You don't know where or how much research to do. What size do I need? What are the differences between all the different cups?
3. They find it unhygienic or disgusting. We definitely don't want to read or hear that! Sure, a menstrual cup has to be inserted, removed, and cleaned, and you come into contact with menstrual fluid, but that's not dirty or disgusting. It's important to know your own body and what happens during your period. And by the way: you often experience a red miracle when changing tampons and pads, too.
Regarding points 1 and 2, we can only advise you: it's so easy to get information these days! Read forums and blogs on the topic, compare products and reviews, and contact menstrual cup support groups (yes, they really do exist) if you're unsure. You'll also find plenty of information, tips, and tricks in our blog and on our menstrual cup product page. And last but not least: just give it a try and don't give up if it doesn't work the first time. As with many new things, using a menstrual cup also requires some practice.
