We at ELANEE are always happy to connect with moms, dads, families, and their midwives and doctors. In this blog post, mom Melissa introduces you to her pregnancy essentials and shares insights into this exciting, wonderful time.

The “must-haves” for pregnancy

Hey soon-to-be mom,
How are you doing?
Are you resting? Are you putting your feet up and lovingly stroking your shapely belly? Are you listening to the heartbeat and feeling your baby's loving kicks? Are you already imagining what it will be like to hold your baby in your arms?

No?! There are just too many thoughts circling through your head with all the errands and to-dos that still need to be done before the birth? Right?

You're not alone with these thoughts and (sometimes frightening at first) feelings. Pause for a moment and take the time and the moment just for yourself, because you are important! Not just for the baby, but also for yourself.

With all the organizational tasks and purchasing decisions you've already done or still have to make, don't forget about yourself and keep one thing in mind: You will be the best mom in the world for YOUR baby! So think about yourself and include yourself in your planning when organizing all the baby essentials and baby stuff. What do you want? What do you need?

Here are my recommendations for “Mom’s first-time equipment list”:

Breastfeeding basics:

For prevention and care:

As a quick remedy and treatment:

For the intimate area:

  • Postpartum pads (and waterproof panty liners for later use)
  • Pelvic floor training aids (during pregnancy and after the postpartum period only in consultation with the midwife and/or doctor!)
  • Dead Sea bath salts (for a sitz bath – in consultation with the midwife and/or doctor)

To feel good and stay fit:

  • Nice large water bottle or teapot
  • Heat socks and neck pillows
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables or
  • Frozen vegetables for a balanced diet
  • Healthy snacks for you (nut, muesli, fruit, energy bars), because here's the reality: Your baby has already had three breastfeeding sessions and you haven't had a single bite yet.
  • Apps for documentation (whether it's for documenting the breast side and breastfeeding times or for information on your baby's development – apps are definitely helpful and entertaining)
    Night light and clock

Find support!

And remember: You're not the only one becoming a mom. With the birth of your baby, a dad is also born. As well as a grandma, a grandpa, and maybe even an aunt and/or uncle, etc. Plan for them. Can someone do the laundry for you? The cooking? The shopping?

If you need support, advice or help, then get it and ask your social circle for it.

You are not alone, but you are important!

Have a nice time!
